Little Flower Swimming Team
By Joana Meminiaj'24
You may know about Little Flower’s basketball, track, and soccer teams, but did you know that we have a swimming team? The LF swim team meets at St. Joseph's Prep High School Monday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. and accepts swimmers of all skill levels. Current team members are enthusiastic about the sport. Senior Skylar Womack has been swimming for five years and has swam for LF for three of them. Her favorite part about swimming is the moments you hear your times at meets and reach a new personal record. Her favorite stroke is the breaststroke. Skylar plays multiple sports, including track and field. She balances both sports daily and says, “Balancing both sports is difficult, but at the same time manageable because both coaches understand that each sport supports the other." Skylar recommends students join the team because “it is fun, and I recommend it most especially for people of color because there are not many of us." Kaylynn Young is a junior on the team and has been swimming for the past two years. Her favorite stroke is a freestyle. When asked about her favorite part about swimming, she says, “Cheering on my friends at meets." Kaylynn recommends that others join swim because it is fun and she has met some of her best friends through it. Team captain Zoe Steinmetz says, “The Little Flower swim team is like my home away from home. The combination of such strong team spirit and words of encouragement from Coach Sean pushes us to achieve our best times. It's an honor to be team captain and guide such an amazing group of girls!” Swim meets will begin soon, so please come and support friends in the student section. If you have any questions or are interested in joining our team, please email LF swim coach Sean Clothier at SClothier@lfchs.org.
2023 Fall Chinatown Trip
By Hillary Nguyen'25
On November 30th, it was a beautiful and sunny Thursday that was calling for a trip into the city. The Asian Culture Club of Little Flower went to Chinatown. On the drive to Chinatown, the members already knew it would be an amazing day, seeing all the beautiful autumn colors filling up their views. When they arrived, their first stop was Paris Baguette, a South Korean bakery-café. Since members arrived early, everyone had many delicious and fresh options. Then they went to their next stop and main activity: Happy DIY. This store is a gift and craft store in which you can use decoden to make numerous accessories, ranging from hair clips to phone cases to mirrors. If you do not know what decoden is, it is the art of using silicone (that looks similar to whipped cream) and charms to embellish. Additionally, they had a large wall of cute Asian figurines and blindbags. After around an hour of fun, everyone was getting thirsty and in need of something sweet! The group was stopped by Mr. Wish, Taiwan's No. 1 fruit tea franchise. They have many fruit teas, boba teas, smoothies, and snacks. While some people were still ordering and waiting for their drinks, others decided to head to a cosmetics and beauty store called M.S. Mart. It’s a great place to explore Asian imported products! Now, with all the walking and refreshing, it was time for lunch. One group of club members went to a Korean restaurant called Dae Bak, and another went to a Chinese restaurant called Chu Shang Spicy. Getting the chance to experience a bit of Asian culture was exciting and new!
